Let’s be real — there’s a lot of fear wrapped around the word witch.

Especially for those of us who grew up in the church. I know I did.

I was raised Christian.

I was taught that anything outside of that label — especially things like meditation, spells, energy work, or “manifestation” — were dangerous or demonic.

But here’s what I’ve come to understand after years of deconstructing, healing, and reclaiming my truth:

Prayer, meditation, and spell casting are not enemies — they are different expressions of the same sacred act.

They are ways of directing intention. Of tuning in. Of focusing energy, words, breath, and vibration to connect with the divine and call in what we need.

They are all acts of creation.

And they all work — not because of the words we use, but because of the energy, presence, and belief we bring to them.

💔 What Christianity Took From Me (and What I’m Grateful For)

Growing up in Christianity did a number on my confidence, my voice, and the way I saw myself in the world.

I was taught to be small.

To submit.

To distrust my own desires.

To be seen but not fully expressed.

My sensuality was shameful.

My leadership was “too much.”

My intuitive gifts were often labeled “rebellious” or “dangerous.”

I internalized those beliefs and carried them into adulthood — and into my marriage, where I struggled to express my needs, set boundaries, or even own my power.

And yet…

There are pieces of my Christian upbringing I still cherish deeply.

Chief among them: the teachings of Jesus.

🌟 Why I Still Follow the Teachings of Jesus

While I no longer identify as a Christian, I am deeply spiritual and still a devoted follower of the teachings of Yeshua (Jesus).

His messages of compassion, inclusion, integrity, radical love, and non-judgment resonate with me now more than ever.

He was, in many ways, a revolutionary mystic — unafraid to challenge systems of oppression, welcome the outcast, and remind people that the Kingdom of God/dess is within.

That’s my kind of teacher.

His values align with my values of light, love, and liberation.

Not shame. Not control. Not fear.

🙏🏽 Prayer: The Practice That Never Left Me

Of all the things I carried with me from my Christian past, prayer is the one I never let go of.

It’s still a sacred part of my everyday life.

I pray over my food.

I speak protection over myself and my loved ones.

I call in abundance, safety, clarity, and joy.

I even pray during client sessions — sometimes silently, sometimes aloud.

But I’ve also expanded my understanding of what prayer really is.

🧘🏽‍♀️ So… What’s the Difference Between Prayer, Meditation, and Spells?

Let me break it down simply:

  • Prayer is focused intention communicated through words — often directed toward a higher power.
  • Meditation is focused awareness — quieting the mind to hear divine guidance or deepen presence.
  • Spell casting is focused energy and intention — often ritualized through words, symbols, or objects — used to manifest a desired outcome.
  •

You see the pattern?

All three are tools of energetic communication.

All three are forms of ritual.

All three are spiritual technologies.

And all three are ways of co-creating with the universe (or God/dess, Source, Spirit — whatever name feels right for you).

The only difference is the language.

And honestly? Language evolves — but intention is timeless.

When I light a candle, call in safety, speak words of love over my body, or bless my food before a meal — am I praying, or spellcasting?

The answer is: yes.

It’s both.

Because what I’m really doing is focusing my energy, channeling love, and speaking life into the spaces around and within me.

🧙🏽‍♀️ I Am a Witch — A Woman Who Holds Wisdom

Today, I identify as a witch — not in the cartoonish, broomstick sense, but in the original meaning of the word:

A wise woman. A healer. A seer. A sacred rebel who remembers the ancient ways.

This word, once used to control and demonize powerful women, has become a badge of reclamation for me.

And I know that to some, it’s still a trigger — especially for those raised in fear-based faith traditions.

But to me, being a witch simply means I am someone who works with energy, who honors the Earth, and who understands that my words and intentions carry real power.

When I pray over my food, that’s a spell.

When I speak protection over my retreat space, that’s a spell.

When I write down an affirmation and speak it into the mirror, that’s a spell.

And it’s also… prayer.

There’s no conflict.

There’s only clarity.

🕯️ Making Space for All Paths

One of my greatest joys right now is learning to pray inclusively — to hold space for those who feel connected to the word prayer and for those who don’t.

Whether you resonate more with spellcasting, meditation, or energy work, the essence is the same:

We are naming our desires.

We are aligning with divine truth.

We are creating sacred space to remember who we are.

And no matter what language you use — babe, that’s holy.

💖 Final Thoughts

You don’t have to choose between God/dess and your intuition.

You don’t have to abandon your faith to reclaim your power.

You don’t have to throw away everything from your past — you get to sift through it, keep the gold, and build something that feels like home to your soul.

I’m not here to tell you what to believe.

I’m here to walk with you as you remember that you are powerful, sacred, and free to define your spiritual path in a way that supports your healing and your truth.

Whether you call it a prayer, a spell, a meditation, or a blessing — your words hold magic.

Your body holds wisdom.

And your spirit knows the way.

With reverence,
